Structural repairs on brickwork

Structural Brickwork Damage

When movement in a historic building has occurred.

You will have to have the building surveyed before treatment.

You will need to find out if the movement has stopped and set.

Most clients are advised to treat with heliflex bars and resin.

Unfortunately these clients are advised wrong!

The  resin used for heliflex bars is way to strong and in-facts causes  fractures either end of the heliflex bar.

When movement has set, you must replace or repair  and repoint any necessary brickwork with its original materials.

Definition of structural brick walls

A "structural brick wall" is one that contributes to the support of the structure. Its multiple brick wythes give width and strength to the wall and are usually separated by an air space.

The wythes are tied or joined together at intervals by bricks laid across the wythes to connect them, or by steel fasteners or wire mesh or other means.

A structural brick wall is built to actually support the building floors and roof.

A wythe is a continuous vertical section of masonry one unit in thickness. It may be independent of, or interlocked with, the adjoining wythe
